That's amazing news. It's really something to look forward to. I had no idea the New Mamas & Papas ever entered a recording studio! I thought they were only a live/touring entity. Now we know they had further ambitions. I wonder why the album was shelved. Perhaps the label rejected it, or they felt there wasn't a market for it. As of today, there still isn't a big market for it, but much thanks and appreciation to Varese Vintage for pulling so many recordings out of obscurity for the sake of "people like us!" And I'm over the moon for Man On The Moon too! Wow :D

Hi John,
As far as I know, Spanky McFarland retired. A few years ago, she had a website, but I don't know if it is still up.
Take care,

The music stands by itself. Just read the text of the article. Skip the picture and the comments below the article.

Honestly, the picture itself does not bother me. The publishers obvious intent, is irritating...but what can you expect?

As for the comments: how many of those people do you think would have bought the cd, had the sad story not been made public? I mean, all of those folks who are screaming that they will not buy it because of Mac's book?

I look forward to hearing the album.

As for what the band will be called: I'm guessing that they will NOT use The Mamas & Papas....NEW, or not.

Spanky is alive and well and living in northern California. Recently, with liner notes by Spanky, a "new" CD was released... "Spanky & Our Gang/Back Home Americana, Vol. 1." It is a mixture of studio tracks, live tracks, "round the campfire" sounding tracks. It includes "Wild Women" which Cass recorded early in her career, plus "California Dreamin", etc. She is also looking forward to the live tracks being released on the "Many Mamas, Many Papas" CD.
