browsing Amazon. com a few minutes ago, I ran across The Complete Cass Elliot Solo Collection 1968/71. They had only one available and their asking only $178. and change for it. Gee, I'm sure glad I bought mine a few years back! Does anyone know why this is?

Hey Terry,
I know what you mean, supply and demand? I guess. I remember before the two-fer release of CE/RNPFAL there was someone on ebay wanting a similar price for the CASS ELLIOT CD, and a few months ago i remember people wanting a few hundred for THE MUGWUMPS & BIG 3 cds, untill suddenly more stock appeared on amazon.

That CD has always been a bit expensive, cheapest I've seen it has been about $40, on a recent post someone posted a link as some stock was found at Hip-O records (?), and it was around that price.

Would this be the reason ..... anyone ???

Cheers,
Adam

Hi Adam- I'm sure that your right. I remember discussing this with jcg sometime back- that He had found this collection for less money from Hip O select. Well, this offer IS from Hip O Select. This is one of those good news/ bad news deals. The good news is that anything Cass Elliot has value, but the bad news is that this price could deter some new fans from enjoying this wonderful compilation of music. Oh Well. Life goes on, Huh? Thanks for responding!

Hi Adam and Terry,

I think Amazon may have stocked several copies when it first came out and have since run out. I didn't know about the Hip-O Select website when I went to buy the solo collection, so I purchased it on Amazon for the list price of $39.99 while they still had it in stock. Since then, it appears that Hip-O has re-stocked the item and it is still available on their site for its original price (I was so excited I bought a second copy!):

As to the exorbitant prices being asked on Amazon: sellers probably don't realize that it is readily available through Hip-O Select directly and think that because its not in stock through Amazon, they can jack up the price ridiculously. Unfortunately, since Cass' first two solo albums are only available domestically on this package, it's probable that some poor, enthusiastic soul may fall victim. If only Cass' catalog were more available this kind of extortion wouldn't be possible. I cringe with envy at the superb re-issuing of her catalog that's currently happening overseas. Why isn't it happening here?

She deserves the re-assessment.
take care,
jcg

Hi JCG- Thank you for a most informative education on how to sidestep being taken advantage of. I was browsing Amazon, thinking a backup copy would be nice, but sticker shock surely made me think twice. As to The Big Three, now that one I would pay way more than the asking price without any reservation. That's a treasure that I wouldn't let go of for any price. Well, come to think of it, that's true for anything I have concerning Cass Elliot! Crazy, huh? Anyway, thank you Adam, and thank you too jcg, you both helped me to understand what's cooking!

Hi Terry,

You're very welcome. I love Cass and feel a kinship with anyone else who recognizes that illusive, sweet, aesthetic beauty she possessed. I so appreciate when fellow enthusiasts on this forum take the time to enlighten me when I have questions; it is my humble pleasure to do the same in return. Glad I could help.

And since you mentioned it - the Big 3 CD is also still available:

take care,
jcg
