Thurman Munson

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Thurman Munson's death. He played 11 seasons of Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees from 1969 until his death in 1979. He was a 7-time All-Star, a 3-time Gold Glove winner, had a .292 lifetime batting average, 113 homers and 701 runs batted in. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1970, the American League Most Valuable Player in 1976. He led the Yankees to 3 consecutive World Series appearances from 1976-1978, winning championships in the latter 2 years. Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash on August 2, 1979. Why am I posting this on Cass Elliot's website? I'm certain that Cass and Thurman never crossed paths with one another but they do have some connections with each other:

1. Like Cass, Thurman Munson was 32 years old at the time of his death.
2. The anniversaries of Cass's death is on July 29 and Thurman's is on August 2, which is only 4 days apart.
3. Chynna Phillips, (who is John and Michelle Phillips's daughter and John and Michelle were Cass's former groupmates with the Mamas and the Papas) once had a dog named Thurman and it was named after Thurman Munson.
