Cass interview 1971 AP

Postby RichieRich53 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 10:42 am

Sharing a 1971 Associated Press interview with Cass Elliot that I stumbled upon. It's not too long, but Cass offers insights into her career both before and after the M&Ps, including the Vegas disater and recording with Dave Mason.

Thank you for posting.

Short it is; but, I learned something I didn't know: that Cass had co-hosted a show aimed at teengers! I may have missed reference to it in the Fiegel biography--and if I did I apologize--but one of my main criticisms of her otherwise very good biography is the scant mention it makes of what is turning out to be Cass' prolific appearances on TV throughout the late 60s and early 70s. There's still a definitive biography waiting to be written, or at least a revision of Fiegel's biography.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Richierich and jcg,
Great article. Thanks for posting. I agree with you, jcg, somebody needs to go back and look at all of Cass's appearances on tv in the 60's and 70's. The only book that's come close to that in my humble opinion is Make Your Own Kind of Music.
Take care,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,
I haven't seen the book you refer to, but now I definitely want to find it! I keep hoping that our webhost Richard would put his encyclopedic knowledge of everything Cass into a definitive illustrated biography.
Here's hoping

Hi jcg and Cassfan,
The book's full title is: Make Your Own Kind of Misic: A Career Retrospective of Cass Elliot in The Big Three, The Mugwumps and The Mamas and The Papas. It was written by Jon Johnson and published in 1987. As fae as I know it's out of print, but may still be available in places like Amazon.com, I'm not sure. I would check used bookstores. Hope this helps.
Take care,
Nicole

Thanks for the interview share. Cass co-hosted a pop music show connected with Dick Clark called "Get It Together." It was on Saturday mornings right after American Bandstand. She sang songs, mostly from Bubblegum, Lemonade... and interviewed pop acts like Mark Lindsey and Bobby Sherman. Her co-host was someone called Sam Riddle. I think he was a DJ or something. Cass, of course was very good- witty and entertaining.
