I recently bought a restored mono version of their first album. You can get it on vinyl from Amazon.com for about $20. It is well worth it. There are a lot of effects and background vocals that are more prominent, and the vocals are a bit more warm and immediate than some of the stereo mixes that we fans are used to. Another difference is you can clearly hear the fade outs of each song, especially the piano and other instruments in I Call Your Name, and the finish to California Dreamin', which has a dramatic flourish at the end. I'm hearing things from each song that I've never heard before. Bravo to the restorers (Sundazed), and here's hoping they remaster all of the other albums in mono!

You got that right Papa J. After so many years of listening to California Dreamin' on stereo cd whenever I saw one of the old shows, 'Shindig', 'Where the Action Is' etc. I loved that the track was in mono, the way I originally heard it. That track, in my opinion, is best in mono with the voices centered. Just my 2 cents.
