My mom would have turned 68 on her birthday this year. Wonder how she'd view society today. I know she would have been an Obama-Mama. :geek:

I know how we would 'view' her, with love and reverence. A one in a million girl.

It was 35 years ago that our beloved Cass Elliot was taken away from us. That Michael Jackson song "Gone Too Soon" said it best and like Michael, Cass was taken away from us way too soon.

One thing the world could do with now is Cass Elliot, although perfect for her time she was ahead of her time and the world is a better place because we had Cass in it! Most people don't achieve in a lifetime what Cass achieved in an 11 year career.
She will never be forgotten and as time goes on her position alongside the great entertainers will become even more solid, the people who participate on these forums will make sure of that.
RIP Cass, we're keeping your dream alive!!

It's hard to believe that it's been 35 years since the world lost Cass Elliott. She was such an amazing singer and even though her career was relatively brief, she left an enduring legacy as one of the greatest icons of popular music. My mom and dad were lucky enough to see her with the Mamas and the Papas back in 1966 (the year I was born) at Carnegie Hall and I remember how deeply saddened they both were when we heard that Cass had died. Although I was only 8 years old at the time I have since developed a great love and admiration for Cass's great talent as a member of the Mamas and the Papas and as a solo artist. I like to think that if she had lived she would have gone on to even greater things - I'm sure she would have had more television specials and even become a talk show host like Oprah! I also like to think she would have become a Broadway star and might have even reunited with the Mamas and the Papas at some point - who knows?!

Owen - I was there in the audience the night you were there to represent your mother when the Mamas and the Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You gave a beautiful speech about your mom's contribution to not only pop music but our society in general which was very inspiring. I think Michelle said it best when she said - " I know that Cass is sitting up on that big full moon tonight, looking down over these proceedings - wearing a size 6 Thierry Mugler dress and thanking all very much!"

I know I can say with conviction that the world was better off for having Cass Elliott in it during her brief but memorable time here on earth!
