At a time when Brit model Twiggy made thin "in", a 300 plus pound singer with a gregarious nature and an effectious voice won the hearts of millions. True, she may have felt depressed about her size perhaps once every crescent moon, but you wouldn't know it from her dead-on, witty delivery, her robust facade, her unbridled intellect. Through all of the hills and valleys of her career and personal life she (perhaps unknowingly) empowered a multitude of people who could never fit the Hollywood mold in this or any lifetime. Hell, there are rail thin actors, actresses, singers, and models who still can't fit the mold.
As I watch sketch after sketch and interview after interview on YouTube, I cannot help but think how softly she would've killed 'em with her own TV talk show. I imagine the banter, the songs, the off the cuff spontaniety that would have her trademark all over it.
Miss Cohen, you didn't have to fit the mold because you already broke it.
Hollywood could sure use a Cass Elliot today.
