What exactly did I buy? (If You Can Believe... Import Vinyl)

Postby Chrismo » Sat Sep 04, 2010 8:13 pm

Hi guys - first time poster and longtime record collector of the oddball vinyl.

I picked up this album today as I was really interested in the album cover, as well as the actual vinyl record itself. The record states that it was made in Japan on the back, but someone originally thought it was pressed in Taiwan. The vinyl itself is reddish in color around the edges but has a "burst" appearance in that the colors get darker towards the center of the record.

Here are a few photos:

What exactly did I stumble upon? I can't find anything about this one online...

that's funny. There are lyrics on the back as opposed to the b/w picture and liner notes. Or is that middle picture an insert that was given with the album, Chrismo?

Hey John - that's how the album was in the store. It's not a typical cardboard cover for the album, it feels like the insert sleeve. However, it's the album cover on the front of it and the lyrics on the back of it. Not quite sure what is going on... :D

It looks like a typical Japanese version. They modify the artwork considerably, and lyric sheets are usually requisite. I'm interested in how acurate the lyrics are. They often interpret them with very funny results. Perhaps the colored vinyl was also typical. I have a Japanese version of the Papas & Mamas album. It's mostly a barebones version; modified cover, sans the cut-out gatefold, but with orange vinyl! Cool find!

If there is a date, it's in Japanese. The lyrics look pretty correct for the most part...

sometimes the date, among other things, is etched in the vinyl between the label and the groves
