just in case you don't know yet, the new collectors choice catalog features John's new Pussycat CD as well as a DVD release of the old Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour show which includes Cass singing Dream a Little Dream to Tommy Smothers in bed.

Indeed it is a great album and sounds totally different than Pay, Pack and Follow. It's great to have the album as John originally intended it to be.

I just now got Pussycat. It is quite nice. The Liner notes (as always), pictures, and back liner are great. I love the original Atlantic track sheet from 1978 (when I was still 3 yrs old). It is great to have a picture of some of the backup women who do a bang-up harmony job. I've always loved John's sound, but his arrangements with both men and women are the best. Come to think of it, Denny and Scott's voices were/are extraordinary with a large range, so perhaps it is that the more octaves the better for John's sound. The sound is so sharp - ain't technology great?

The liner notes say there were "12 or so completed tracks" but we only hear 10 of them here. Are there more unreleased tracks? Or are the other 2 those rare tracks from Japan releases of Pay, Pack, and Follow? When were those recorded/mixed relative to what is on Pussycat?

The first 3 bonus tracks are also from the sessions (tracks 11, 12 and 13). The only other material from the sessions not released is an alternate take of “Susan, Susan”, a long, stoned jam by Keith on electric guitar and John on acoustic guitar listed on the tape box as “Blues Jam in A Minor”, and unfinished takes of the Bay City Rollers song “Rock and Roll Love Letter” , sung by Keith

Richard,

Thanks for the great info. What can you tell us about "Boys from the South" and "I Wished" which appear only on special editions of Pay, Pack, and Follow? How do they fit in with the Pussycat sessions? Do they even involve any of the Stones?

Just as Richard is for Cass, there are many experts of the Stones. They have incredibly detailed records that seem to jive with what Richard said and what is in all the album notes. It seems some nice tracks from this time period are being saved for the next John Phillips album. No other way to hold back the contemporary "Boys from the South" and "I Wished" among others.
